X-ray Tomography with the MDXi

The MDXiNT has been upgraded to allow it to be used for x-ray tomography. In this mode a sample is placed on the turntable and rotated through a fan beam of x-rays. Data is collected from the detector throughout each 360-degree revolution. The MDXi software can then be used to reconstruct a single slice, or if multiple slices are taken, a full 3D volumetric reconstruction can be created

When used with diesel particulate filters up to 14" diameter, slices are approximately 1 mm thick, and can be repeated in increments of one half mm through the length of the filter. Using software provided with the MDXi it is easy to slice a volumetric reconstruction along any plane to visualize thermal regeneration damage. Software can also remove the substrate from the reconstruction allowing the operator to view items such as ash build up.
